Antidote for Anxiety

I have to admit to you I did not know much about anxiety until this past year. I went on an eighteen month mission for my church. I came home half way through to deal with some kidney stones. When I went back out I experienced my first anxiety attack. I had no idea what was happening to me. I was sitting on the couch one day and all of a sudden I had a really hard time breathing. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I was trapped in my body and there was nothing I could do about it. I remember just laying down on my bed and breathing in some lavender oil. I was trying to calm down. It took me over an hour to be feeling ok. That was the first time I have ever had an anxiety attack.

Since then I have been studying psychology. In my psychology class we are learning about anxiety. My teacher informed us that everyone deals with anxiety to some degree. My teacher asked us to show by raise of hands who has dealt with anxiety. Around two-thirds of the class raised their hands. It was then that I really realized what an issue it is. We learned that people cannot handle more than 10-12 stressors in their life at one time. As soon as you have more than that your body cannot handle it. It will literally shut down. I think this is what happened to me. I had too many things that were creating stress in my life at one time.

I still have more anxiety than I would like. I get stressed out a lot more than I used to. I have several things that have helped me. If I start to feel stressed out I will put on lavender oil and wild orange. I have started to put it on in the morning after I shower. It helps me to get into a very relaxed state of mind that carries with me throughout the day. If I have things come up later during the day I will just put more one. Within seconds of smelling the oil I feel much more comfortable and I can feel my stress decline.

I was reading about anxiety online. My teacher recommended that we read about what the Mayo Clinic has to say. They said that the symptoms for anxiety include the following:

    • Feeling apprehensive
    • Feeling powerless
    • Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom
    • Having an increased heart rate
    • Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation)
    • Sweating
    • Trembling
    • Feeling weak or tired

I have only had one bad anxiety attack, but in my mind it was one too many. I am now aware that there are many people who experience that on a daily basis. I feel as if I can understand a little bit of what they are going through. Lavender and wild orange help ALOT! They also help you to think more positively. Since anxiety is in the mind, my teacher informed us that people with anxiety need to try to change their thoughts. It is hard to think positively with anxiety. I also put the oil in a diffuser and I can smell it all day long.

People with anxiety should also go on walks and try to enjoy the beauty of nature around them. It helps if you try and relax. Focus on all that is good in your life. Breathing deeply really helped me to calm down. I am a HUGE believer in the power of thoughts. I believe "what we think about we bring about." I have written on my bathroom mirror a phrase that helps me to get in the right mind set every morning. It says "Change your thoughts. Change your life." We each choose what to think about and what to focus on. If you are looking for good you will find it. If you are looking for bad you will find it. I don't think most of us realize what a huge impact our thoughts have on the outcome of each day! Try to focus on the good! It will make a world of a difference.

Why I believe in essential oils!

Hello! My name is Madelaine Graves. I am a 22 year old girl who has a love for life. I enjoy adventure and I like to be active. I especially enjoy trying new things and learning new things. There is so much to know! I have recently developed a love and passion for essential oils. I am writing this blog with the intention of sharing with others the success I have seen from using my oils. I am not exceptionally "earthy" and I would not deem myself a "quack." I believe in going to the doctor for big health issues. Doctors are a huge blessing to us and I am grateful for their knowledge and dedication. However, I do believe there are ways to prevent and treat current health concerns from within the walls of our own homes. I am the type of person that usually goes to the internet to look up my symptoms and see if there is a way to treat them without spending a lot of money at the doctor. For those people out there that are like me, you are why I chose to write this blog. I hope that with my experiences and the things I have learned that I can help you to heal your heart and soul in a less expensive and more effective way. Unlike most medications, essential oils do not come with a long list of side effects. The oils I use are in their most pure form. They are certified pure therapeutic grade - medicinal grade.  You can take them internally.

So... how did I get involved with essential oils? I am prone to kidney stones. I started developing kidney stones back in high school. I would get them three to four times a year. I remember one time I had 14 total stones. I had six in one kidney and eight in the other. Talk about pain! I have been through the standard protocols for this problem.  I have been through 3 lithrotripsy procedures to remove my stones.   I don't recall developing a deep appreciation for the effects of oils until my mother gave me some Birch oil for the stones.  I remember coming home and being in so much pain that I just wished I could die. We went to the doctor and they told me it was a kidney stone and to drink a lot of water. I was desperate to be at ease in my own body. I rubbed the Birch oil on the side of my abdomen where my kidney was. Within seconds the pain had decreased drastically. My skin felt warm and I was finally able to lay still. Within the next few days I used the entire bottle of Birch and I waited for my stone to pass. At the time I would have been willing to do anything to make my pain stop. I thought Birch oil was indeed a gift from God. Anyone that has experienced a large kidney stone will understand exactly what I mean. This was the first time I began to be aware of the healing effects of essential oils.

Birch oil is very hard to find and it is very valuable. Since then I have used Cypress, Lemon, Geranium, Thyme, Wintergreen, and Frankincense. I make a blend of oils depending on what I have on hand. These have proven to be just as effective. I continue to drink a lot of water and now I add lemon oil to my water. The lemon oil is 40 times more powerful than lemon juice, it tastes great, and keeps my kidneys functioning properly.

I plan to write and inform you about how essential oils can help with physical issues as well as emotional ones. I will write about many other success stories and how the oils can help with conditions such as:

Acne
Anti-viral
Anxiety
Candida
Colds
Cramps
Depression
Digestion problems
Energy
Flu
Headaches
Hearing
Hormone balancing
